Wereldmuseum Rotterdam, I cook, therefore I am….

It was the beginning of a new week and I am already getting the delicious food in my tummy! This time I was invited to the beautiful Wereldmuseum in Rotterdam. Never been there before. So I am pretty excited!

The Wereldmuseum presents the exhibition I cook, therefore I am. A culinary tale by Abdelkader Benali. Writer and historian Abdelkader Benali and art historian Alexandra van Dongen present the story of the role of food in our earthly existence. With this said. We got a chance to try out the delicious food in their restaurant. As I walked in, the tables are laid with linen, and design chairs (‘Endless’ by Gelderland) provide comfortable seating. The chefs in the kitchen preparing food with a professional attitude. Taking time for each dish and respect for the product.

Every dish was really well prepared and I loved every bite of it. Especially the starter. There is a hidden oyster in the dish, but the oyster wasn’t too strong that it took over the flavor. It was well balanced.

After the lunch we went to look around. In the museum there are three clay tablets from Mesopotamia dating from the year 2000 BC, the oldest written culinary resource in the world, are presented in a very special manner. How fascinating is that! Designer Maaike Roozenburg was able to make 3 little tiny replicas, so the visitors can look at them more. But there is more!

Education & events
There will be an education programma alongside I cook, therefore I am. You can taste the unique dishes in a specially set-up Taste studio on the ground floor. Also, the Faculty of Archaeology at Leiden University will present the Byzantine and Ottoman culinary traditions. This led by Dr Joanita Vroom, in cooperation with Verhalenhuis Belvédère, the house of intangible heritage

But I am not going to tell you everything I saw in the museum. If you’re interested, I recommend you to visit the museum and the restaurant. So you can experience this beautiful exhibition in the Wereldmuseum in Rotterdam.
